GOPHER TORTOISEThese land dwelling tortoises are listed on the State of Florida's Threatened and Endangered Species list as a Species of Special Concern. While amazing to watch, please do so from a distance. They play an important role in the ecosystems they inhabit such as scrub and pine flatwoods, as many other animals utilize the burrow dug by the Gopher Tortoise.
