| 2009 FEMA Sea Oat Project |
Planting Sea Oats |
The FEMA vegetation project consists of an installation of a roughly 7 foot wide band of sea oats, planted on approximately 18 inch centers. The sea oats were planted along the edge of the dune, seaward of existing vegetation. |
The sea oat installation area covers the entire South Beaches and Mid Reach shoreline. The purpose of planting the vegetation was to trap windblown sand and help stabilize the dunes. Aquatic Plants of Florida installed the vegetation. This erosion mitigation project was funded 100% by FEMA. |
