Questions about volunteering?

How do I decide what volunteer opportunity is right for me?

Before making a commitment it is important to think about:

  • Your interests
  • Your likes and dislikes
  • Your skills
  • What you hope to get out of the volunteer experience
  • Your availability
  • What type of commitment are you able to make?
  • What distance are you willing to travel to the volunteer opportunity?

What about internships?

  • There are internship opportunities in different departments and offices. Click here for current internships
  • You will gain practical, hands on experience, apply your classroom knowledge and skills in a professional setting & enhance your skills, knowledge and job qualifications
  • If desired, we will work with you in order to meet requirements for college internship credit
  • Due to severe budgetary reductions we cannot offer a salary or any other form of compensation for any County internship at this time

Is there an age requirement to volunteer?

  • Different volunteer positions have different age requirements and may or may not accept youth under the age of 18
  • Please see the individual position descriptions or websites for specific age requirements
  • All youth less than 18 years old must have written permission from a parent or legal guardian to volunteer with County government

Are background screenings required?

  • Background screenings are required for all applicants (volunteer and employee) being considered for a position within County government
  • The level of screening is based on access to members of at-risk populations
  • Once the background screening is satisfactorily completed the department/office can coordinate a start date for volunteer placement
